ArrowThe Idea

The idea came from traveling in Europe, observing similar programs in several countries, and researching the results. What we learned convinced us that signs like these can make a huge difference.

Following is an interpretation of a press release dated December 4, 2003 sent me by Dr. Hinterkorner from the Austrian Council for Traffic Safety. An investigative study done by the Austrian Council for Traffic Safety showed a 15% decrease in accident rates for those permit holders who were taught using the L-17 system, driving a minimum of 3,000 kilometers during their graduated licensing period using the three L-17 Student Driver signs in full view on the side of the vehicle as well as the back of the vehicle. Young men in this category saw a significant drop due to greater exposure to different driving situations.

ArrowThe Design

The design is our own, based on safety and ease of use.
These highly visible, attention-getting magnets use the OSHA recommended ANSI safety color code yellow combined with black…for the same reason that school buses and many traffic signs use the yellow and black combination. It’s almost impossible to overlook or ignore!

And of course, because you won’t be using the Student Driver Signs on your car all the time, we’ve made them magnetic. Each set contains three signs, one for each door and one for the rear of the vehicle. They’re easy to use – just stick them on when your student driver is behind the wheel and pull them off when they’re not.

Our international handicapped blue color, used in most countries in Europe, our pink and our silver-gray magnet colors provide a subtle inconspicuous look. They’re great for seniors or students who don’t necessarily want to stand out, but would like to gently inform their surrounding drivers of the extra space and respect they would like to gain while out on the road.

ArrowIncrease Safety

Every driving school in the country puts signs on their cars to alert other drivers that there’s a student at the wheel – to protect their students, their instructors, and their vehicles. Now you can provide that extra margin of safety when you are in the role of driving instructor in your own car – by applying our Student Driver signs to the sides and back of your vehicle.

Knowing that drivers around you are aware of a student driver at the wheel can make you and your new driver feel more comfortable and encourage you both to get in those added hours of practice that can result in better and safer drivers. What’s more, our Student Driver signs will reduce the risk of having an accident before they even have their license, which could have consequences not just for their licensure, but also for your insurance rates.

While we’d love to see Student Driver signs issued with every learner’s permit, that’s not the case yet, so until that happens, it’s up to you to provide that extra layer of protection for your student driver.
